What We Took Away from Accountex 2025

I’ve always been a Xero cheerleader (and still am!). My clients love it, it’s easy to use, and it makes processes simpler for both of us. But like many, I had concerns about the Making Tax Digital (MTD) updates for the self-employed, especially around pricing.

After seeing what Xero has planned and the pricing structure for their MTD solutions—I have to say, I’m impressed. It’s clear they’ve really thought about both accountants and small business owners when rolling this out.

That said, I didn’t stop there. I also sat down with FreeAgent for a demo, and wow—they’ve really upped their game. Their pricing, ease of use, and the features they’re offering? Very impressive. They’re definitely ones to watch, especially for smaller businesses or sole traders.

Accountex isn’t just about shiny new apps. One of the biggest takeaways came from the talks and seminars. Hearing directly from industry leaders and experts is always inspiring. They talked about real-world challenges we all face—losing focus, hitting plateaus, or not knowing the next step.
